In particular, thromboses, embolisms, scars, infections, haemorrhages, and allergies may occur. You must therefore inform your doctor in full of any previous illnesses, operations and medical problems as well as all medications you may be taking. The doctors do everything within their ability to minimize risks. As well as extensive anamnesis and explanations, this also includes a realistic assessment of the likely results of the operation.

In some cases, in particular where the patient has a severe general illness or fully overblown expectations, a conscientious surgeon may choose to refuse to operate in order to avoid later problems.
