Dermabrasion

The term dermabrasion means sanding of the skin. This procedure is especially effective on wrinkles in the mouth area and on so-called smoker’s lines. The abrasion procedure causes scabbing which takes approx. eight to ten days to heal and redness which remains for a few weeks. During this period, which can last up to three months, the patient should avoid direct sunlight to prevent skin discoloration. After a ten-day period, where Bepanthen eye ointment is applied to the treated area, it can be protected by make-up mask or factor 30 sun block. Treatment is carried out under local anaesthesia as an outpatient procedure or combined with a facelift. The final result is smoother skin, although there are limits to the smoothing effect on complexions with particularly deep wrinkles. These can be improved, but not totally smoothed out. In such cases, implants can be injected to smooth remaining wrinkles.
