Breast Tuck / Breast Reduction
The two forms of surgery are similar, but different in technique, depending on how much of a change the patient desires and the original breast size. The most noticeable difference between the two techniques is the amount of scarring left by them. The smallest scars occur in the area surrounding the nipple areola, larger scars stretch from the nipple areola to the crease beneath the breast and form a horizontal line from the breast bone across to the side. Unlike the scar left by a breast enlargement, they are almost always visible, but do lighten and become less obvious in time. The operation involves an overcorrection of the breast for achieving good aesthetic results. This means that the breast does not take on its permanent and perfect appearance directly after surgery, but in time. You must therefore be patient until the final results are visible. The operation results in a firm breast and raises it back into place.
The procedure is fairly complicated, and requires both surgical and artistic skill from the surgeon. Because it is rather long—approx. 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours—it is performed under general anaesthesia. It also usually involves a postoperative hospital stay of one to two days. As with breast enlargements, the stitches are removed approx. ten days after surgery. The patient should wear a well-supporting bra for at least three months thereafter and refrain from sports activities for six to eight weeks. Prophylactic antibiotics are also administered to prevent infection.
